State of affairs:
Within the programme "New Patrons", we develop together with the operators of the observatory and the small enterprise 4pi Systeme – society for astronomy and information technology a concept for the location. With our joint approach we are in a phase of idea generation and planning.
The base for all our considerations regarding the observatory is our fascination for the venue as well as for the passionate and patient dedication how the operators developped a model to keep and use the place. Everything up here is done with very simple means and is rigorously practised.
Therefore, the distinguishing marks of the place are calmness and concentration. It has a monasterial touch, except there is no confessional commitment, everything is aligned to working, observing and archiving.
Since our patrons expressed that they wanted to open their hideaway more to the public we pondered about a long-term perspective for the place. The monasterial silence, the collective working and the difficult supply situation on the hill led us to the idea that one could brew an own brand of beer up here.
An own bar would enable the catering of the public that arrives on the Erbisbühl to visit the observatory or to hike.
In the long run, it could be of interest to open the place for artists or writers. To assist in the brewery could legitimate the right of residence.
The beer could establish itself outside of the Sonneberg as own distinguished brand, for example within the art scene, and in this way support the existence of the place.
